Afternoon Tea Making Course in Bath
On this experience, you’ll learn how to prepare a quintessentially British Afternoon Tea. The private course will take place in the centre of Bath, in the Cookery School owned by a renowned pastry chef who has appeared numerous times on British television. Your chef for the day has been taught by him and works alongside him regularly.
Afternoon Tea was introduced in the early 1840s and evolved as a mini meal to stem the hunger and anticipation of an evening meal at 8pm.
Afternoon Tea is mainly comprised of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into ‘fingers’), scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes. Interestingly, scones were not a common feature of Afternoon Tea and were only introduced in the twentieth century
You’ll arrive at the Bertinet Kitchen in the centre of Bath by late morning, be greeted by the friendly staff, and shown around their kitchens. You’ll then begin learning how to prepare a traditional British Afternoon Tea.
The course will be private, and everything will be translated into Chinese if this is a requirement.
You’ll be shown how to bake scones and the classic Victoria Sponge cake, as well as preparing the ‘finger’ sandwiches. Of course, you’ll also learn the best brewing methods for the tea itself.
You’ll have finished preparing the Afternoon Tea by 2pm, and will sit down to enjoy your work, take pictures and most importantly, eat your Afternoon Tea!
